Columbia, Maryland (December 1, 2011)—Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. is pleased to announce the publication of three new training guides for users of Vectorworks® software: 3D Modeling in Vectorworks, Fourth Edition; Vectorworks Architect Tutorial Manual, Fourth Edition; andVectorworks Essentials Tutorial Manual, Fourth Edition. All three manuals were written by Jonathan Pickup, a leading Vectorworks trainer from New Zealand, and have been updated for use with the 2012 version of Vectorworks software.
3D Modeling in Vectorworks helps the reader build a foundation of skills for creating 3D forms through the use of extrudes, sweeps, solids, NURBS, loft surfaces and 3D primitives. The chapter on architectural modeling has been completely re-written to demonstrate how to use the new Automatic Working Planes with the Push/Pull mode.
Vectorworks Architect Tutorial Manual walks the user through a residential renovation project and demonstrates the process of documenting the existing site, preparing and presenting proposed designs and creating working drawings/construction documents. Although the example in the manual is a residential project, the principles learned can also be applied to commercial building design. The book includes a visualization chapter with the addition of massing models, an example using the new Heliodon Tool, and a solar animation exercise, as well as a greater focus on concept drawing and site analysis.

I am a major fan of the BE2Camp unconference theme, its just a very cool and simple way to meet and listern to very good presentations, the one I attended in Birmingham was just very good, I’m only sorry I did not get chance to travel to London to the recent event there, but this new Ecocamp looks to be just the ticket. I certainly have mine booked and will be there.
Be2camp member Carmen Boscolo is organising EcoCamp in Coventry, UK, on Saturday 12 December and its sustainability theme may well appeal to many Be2camp people, including some of those who attended Be2camp Brum in August. We are working in partnership with EcoCamp to promote the event, and you can register to attend at www.ecocamp.ning.com.

I always take a photo of any job I have to survey to measure just how many bricks there are the the set measure. in this case it was 6 courses to 420mm so any photo I have taken of the exterior, I can get a pretty good idea of heights of window cills, what ever, even eaves heights.

I recently did a survey of an old pub, and saw this detail, although its a classic corbled detail, the brickwork under the old roof truss, is not really doing anything, it’s there for show, the beam if you look carefully, sits on the main exterior wall, which is actually new brickwork, if fact the complete barn is new, made to look old, more photos of the pub on my flickr account

remember my blog about 3D printing of a staircase to 1/4 inch scale with a Makerbot, well owenscenic has produced a little video of it actually working,. This is certainly worth checking, out. As he says its a little rought, but perhaps with time it will get up to presentation quality, but the best part is that its created with Vectorworks. Have a look at the other videos re making and testing the makerbot.

I am a major fan of Chris Brogan and read most of what he sends out, on an almost daily basis, and when I saw this little video on his Trust Agent Book, I thought that it was worth spreading about, its a good basis for developing any business plan, I have seen all kinds of people over the last 40 years in business, and can tell you straight away I never liked working for office bullies, who thought that making life hard was the right way, I often left that job quicker than I might have
It’s not about being bullish, or hard, it’s just about doing to others as you would wish them do to you, kinda thing, have a look at the video, I liked it, I have not yet read his book, but will soon enough.

We all know what Wilki is, its that web site that I seem to refer to when looking for information about something, or some one. But behind it is a really powerful, free software package that can be used for storing information. The free MediaWiki software is best known for powering Wikipedia, but you don’t have to be writing an encyclopedia to put it to good use. Extend, skin, and customize MediaWiki to create any kind of easy-to-update, collaborative web site.
In this article Gina Trapani shows just how easy it is to get this up and running, and the simple means of editing the pages, Why show this on a CPD weblog, simple, I and fast coming to the conclusion that a lot of the information I produce, the details, the articles might just need a better storage than archiving on a WordPress blog, so I am looking at this, but it could so easily apply to your own information gathering, Worth a read and its one of those sit back and think about it problems I mentioned the other day.
