Alibre Design Standard for $99

August 13, 2009 in CAD, IntelliCAD

Alibre has done the unthinkable. They have knocked off a 9 (doesn’t matter which one) from the $999 Alibre Design Standard and are offerring it for $99. CEO Paul Grayson explains why on his blog titled “Alibre Challenges CAD Industry to Beat $99 Price Offer“. He writes, “We have decided to launch a massive ‘market share grab’ directly targeting the larges [...]

Another AutoCAD malware warning

August 11, 2009 in AutoCAD, CAD

Shaan Hurley has posted some useful information about another AutoCAD-based virus that is doing the rounds, and I strongly suggest you read it. However, I have some reservations about the solution that is posted there and in the Autodesk knowledgebase.

The LISP code suggested will delete any files called acad.vlx or logo.gif that are located in [...]

Unintentional Plagiarism

August 7, 2009 in CAD, IntelliCAD

I found one particular discussion at the IntelliCAD.net forum quite interesting. One member thinks that Bricsys would not have been close to where they are now if not for things they learned while being part of the ITC. The member is of the opinion that there must be some “unintentional plagiarism” going on, implying that Bricsys has used some of the ITC “experience” to create their new CAD platform.

If that was [...]

Getting Serious Now!

August 4, 2009 in AutoCAD, CAD

Today I’m taking a serious look at AutoCAD 2010. It’s easy to come up with all the documented updates and enhancements but I am digging for those items that are “hidden” from plain view. I also have been looking at Civil 3D 2010 Beta. That’s got some really nice design upgrades that will make life much easier. Check out my good friend Denver’s blog on Civil for AutoCAD. I’m sure he will have something to say about the new “stuff” real soon. You can find his blog on my list of blogs below. Stay tuned and drop me a line to say hi!

It was out of balance as TypePad have generously waived th [...]

The ultimate CAD/BIM accessory, a Fiat 500 Mouse!

August 4, 2009 in AutoCAD, CAD

It looks great, should handle OK but I wonder about the wing mirrors being a bit ‘pointy” on your hand. What could be better than Revit & AutoCAD Architecture 2010, running on a PC with Windows 7 64 and [...]

Trimming Filleted Objects in AutoCAD

July 28, 2009 in AutoCAD, CAD

Setting the Fillet Radius in AutoCAD

July 28, 2009 in AutoCAD, CAD

The fillet radius is the radius of the arc that connects filleted objects. By default, the fillet radius is 0.500 or the last radius set. Changing the radius affects subsequent fillets but not existing ones.

To set the fillet radius

From the Modify menu, choose Fillet.
Enter r (Radius).

About the (real) Office Web Apps, should I be excited?

July 28, 2009 in AutoCAD, CAD

The team bringing Microsoft Office to the web are blogging. On the desktop Office is a (some say too) complex, powerful beast so it’s interesting to see how they are approaching the web versions [...]
