Architectural Technologist – Interesting brick corbled detail

November 7, 2009 in CAD, Vectorworks by CADcaster

Corbled brick detail

I recently did a survey of an old pub, and saw this detail, although its a classic corbled detail, the brickwork under the old roof truss, is not really doing anything, it’s there for show, the beam if you look carefully, sits on the main exterior wall, which is actually new brickwork, if fact the complete barn is new, made to look old, more photos of the pub on my flickr account

Architectural Technologist – Trust Agent

Chris Brogan

I am a major fan of Chris Brogan and read most of what he sends out, on an almost daily basis, and when I saw this little video on his Trust Agent Book, I thought that it was worth spreading about, its a good basis for developing any business plan, I have seen all kinds of people over the last 40 years in business, and can tell you straight away I never liked working for office bullies, who thought that making life hard was the right way, I often left that job quicker than I might have

It’s not about being bullish, or hard, it’s just about doing to others as you would wish them do to you, kinda thing, have a look at the video, I liked it, I have not yet read his book, but will soon enough.

Architectural Technologist – Light emiting Diodes

November 7, 2009 in CAD, Vectorworks by CADcaster

LED lamp with E27 Edison screw.

I don’t know whether I have a problem with this technology or not, do I want a wall that’s in essence a huge great television, The Sensacell system is a unique combination of energy efficient LED lighting technology and advanced touchless proximity sensors engineered for elegant integration with architecture. Sensacell’s compatibility with a broad range of architectural materials enables unlimited application possibilities; the sensors can detect persons and objects straight through surface materials allowing everyday surfaces to become dynamically interactive. I can see the benefits, and as the technology become more settled, woooo, tv playing in one corner, skype in the other and as I approach the wall it changes, ,,,, I am still looking at this but the technology is certainly interesting, worth any CPD, yes, this will not go away, it’s there, can we use it, probably, so learn all you can about it, I will, before I make a decision. Just how much energy does it take !and who controls the wall,,,,,,,  sustainable its not,,,,,,oh just watch.

Architectural Technologist – European Architecture by Frank Hoar

Whilst browsing through some old books today, I came accross a book on European Architecture by an Architect called Frank Hoar, what a gem, it cost £3 and was printed in 1976, but its packed with readable explinations of all European Architecture, with some very good pen and ink sketch’s, plus photos Frank must have taken of the sites, I should have read enough by Sunday night to be in a position to give a more detailed review, but this is just a small comment to say, browse the old book stores, you never know what you will find.

Architectural Technologist – Sketch your way not CAD

November 2, 2009 in CAD, Vectorworks by CADcaster

All Saints Chapel in the Cathedral Basilica of St.
Image via Wikipedia

Its funny how thing seem to take a life of their own, I was only talking about sketching and its a lost art with Computers now so good at drawing, with Jon Pickup of Archoncad, and this article came into my in box:

Computer-aided software has been a boon to architects, bringing speed and efficiency to the design process. But you’re not alone if you wonder whether something is missing in all those precise, exact CAD renderings. In an age of digital graphics, perhaps we need to pull away from the computer and see what happens when we draw with our hands.

Follow the two links to see more, oh and ask Jon if he will let you into his Flickr site, he has a very good style, I keep telling him they are to good not to share, perhaps he will print and sell, what about a calendar Jon.
