I have seen Jon Pickup use this several times since the release of Vectorworks 2010, and I think it’s realy useful trick to know, so I and very pleased that Jon has made another short video to show the offset tool working.

Architectural Technologist – Vectorworks Archoncad training

October 16, 2009 in CAD, Vectorworks

Population growth of European countries

Is it that time of the month already, Jon Pickup of Archoncad has just sent me this months invite to his short sharp training, there is one specifically for Europe, ie the times good but I can’t make it so I am attending the Friday night session, (16th Oct 2009) a bit late but its one of those must attend trainings.

The topic this month is Vectorworks 2010. Should you upgrade? Vectorworks now upgrades on an annual cycle, so every year we look at the new version. ONLY you can decide if the upgrades are worth it, but I wanted to show you as much as I can to help you decide. There are some fantastic new features, and some that look small, but i think will save you a lot of time and aggravation.

Architectural Technologist – Prefab Solar-EV Charging Station Sprouts in Silicon Valley

October 16, 2009 in CAD, Vectorworks

City of San Jose
Image via Wikipedia

I found this article on Wired mag web site and loved it, its the very essence I am looking for, a country thats blessed with almost constant sun coverage, using PV to its best. Basicaly its a  pre-engineered solar panel installed  on the streets of San Jose, California, ready to charge any EV with instant, sustainable power.

The installation marks the first time SunPods’ SP-300 EV Plug-N-Go portable charging station for solar-electric cars has been put to a real-world test. Aside from needing an electrician to make the electrical connections, the technology is literally plug-and-play. After it’s delivered from the factory to the site, it can be set up with no assembly required — perfect for the parking lot of a traveling Shepard Fairey exhibit.

Architectural Technologist – Smart metering for Blog action Day supporting the environment

October 16, 2009 in CAD, Vectorworks

I post this article in support of Blog action day. More than 7000 bloggers have registered to participate and thousands more will join in the next 24 hours. There’s already buzz growing across the blogosphere and on Twitter in anticipation, with updates from around the world every minute about the upcoming event. Whats it all about, well its in support of the environment, and look at ways to help Change the enviroment for the good. The article below is my proposal, hope, wish, call it what you like, I just think that Smart metering is the way to go, small units generating electricity, and sharing in small areas, it also mean that house holders will have to become more energy aware, looking at how we boil water, not using standby on the TV, and looking at ways to generate power with PV cells and solar collectors.

EU promotes smart metering in fight against global warming
The European Commission is calling on member states to support the rollout of technologies to boost energy efficiency, estimating that household energy bills would drop by 10% thanks to smart metering devices. However, no common standards for the devices are currently available.

Google yet again adds more to google earth, by way of a new interface builder for creating 3D models for their amazing Gogle Earth maps, its simple and so easy to use, its not just a toy, this can have very serious consequences for planning and large landscape projects. Watch the video below and follow up.

It seems to be a very simple Sketchup program within Google earth, and its so easy to use.

This blog is in support of Blog action day, 2009 and climate change, now this site is alway putting items up for climate change, and if you search for climate change you will see all items connected with this subject.

Perhaps the biggest item I can see embracing climate change is the smart grid and PV cell technology
